Attention: Lindheimer Fellow Committee

A Lindheimer Fellowship will be available at Northwestern University beginning in the fall of 2004. The Fellow may pursue any line of astrophysical research, but connection with one or more of the on-going programs at Northwestern is desirable. Current research at Northwestern includes: theoretical studies of compact objects, accretion disks and compact X-ray sources, binary star evolution, sources of gravitational radiation, stellar dynamics of dense star clusters, and dynamics of extrasolar planetary systems; observational studies of the Galactic center that use international facilities as well as submillimeter polarimetry instrumentation built and designed at Northwestern; observations of star formation regions in the submillimeter; absorption-line studies of interstellar gas and distant galaxies; multi-wavelength observations of clusters of galaxies; X-ray mirrors development for balloons and for Constellation X; and X-ray/gamma-ray studies of pulsars.

Information about Astronomy and Astrophysics at Northwestern can be found at http://www.astro.northwestern.edu/. Appointments are for two years with the possibility of extension for a 3rd year. The stipend for the 2003-2004 academic year will be $48,000 with a competitive benefits package. An annual research budget of $12,000 will be made available to the Fellow. Please submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications, a brief statement of research interests and plans, and have 3 letters of recommendation sent to the above address by December 15, 2003. Neither FAXed nor electronic applications will be accepted. The applicant must receive his/her Ph.D. before appointment. AAE/EOE.
