Education & Outreach Coordinator – Applications Closed

CIERA is looking for a new Education & Outreach Coordinator!

The Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERAat Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois seeks a motivated, energetic, and organized individual to lead development and coordination of STEM education and outreach programming. The CIERA Education & Outreach Coordinator manages all of CIERA’s STEM education and outreach activities, focusing on K-12 programming. They provide guidance and training for graduate students as they develop resources for K-12 students, teachers, and programs; connect and maintain relations between teachers and CIERA researchers (particularly in the Evanston and Chicago area); provide feedback and assistance in developing education components of grant proposals; are the primary point of contact for both external and internal parties regarding CIERA K-12 education and outreach; and provide oversight of and coordination between all of CIERA’s education & outreach activities. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years program/project administration or other relevant experience.
  • Enthusiasm for initiating, engaging with and working with partners, students, teachers, and community members with diverse backgrounds.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member as well as independently.
  • Strong commitment to team environment dynamics with the ability to contribute expertise and follow leadership directives at appropriate times
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new situations and improvise solutions to new challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education and/or STEM fields, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
  • Demonstrated experience with K-12 partnership work, preferably in science education and/or with low-income schools and minority-serving organizations
  • Prior K-12 teaching experience.
  • Experience leading teacher professional development and/or coaching teachers or graduate students working with K-12 stud
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
  • Knowledge of Common Core Mathematical Practices and the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Design and development of instructional materials and educational experiences, preferably in science education.
