Josh Bloom Presents CIERA Spring Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Machine Learning in Astronomy

CIERA was happy to host Professor Josh Bloom for the Spring Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Wednesday May 7th. Josh is from the Astronomy Department at the University of California, Berkeley and is the Co-chair of the Transients and Variable Star Group of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST). In his talk Dr. Bloom described efforts to apply statistical machine learning to large-scale astronomy datasets both in batch and streaming mode. His talk was attended by an audience of about 60 interdisciplinary researchers; Dr. Bloom also met personally with members of CIERA, including graduate students, postdocs, and faculty.
