From March 22 – 25, 2021 CIERA hosted a meeting for 210 participants called TRiple EvolutioN and DYnamics or “TRENDY,” the third meeting in a series founded by Professor Hagai Perets from Technion, Israel Institute of Technology.

The conference, usually held in person at a smaller scale, was conducted over Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Northwestern Research Assistant Professor Giacomo Fragione chaired the meeting.

The purpose of the TRENDY series is to explore the various observational and theoretical aspects of triple (multiple) evolution and dynamics, and the unique role played by triple and hierarchical systems in the evolution of stellar and planetary systems, merger of compact objects, and formation of exotica.

The meeting series also builds community, serving as a focal point for researchers working on triple and hierarchical systems on all scales, connecting theorists and observers, and linking together and sharing knowledge and tools between groups working on similar questions.
