Faculty Position in Astrophysics – Northwestern – Applications Closed

Deadline: 11:59pm, January 15, 2022

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University invites applications for a new full time faculty position in astrophysics, as part of an ongoing expansion in this area.  We seek outstanding individuals in any area of astrophysics, including theory and computation, observational astronomy, and instrumentation. We are especially seeking researchers who will complement and expand the current activities of the department in astronomy and astrophysics (www.physics.northwestern.edu) and who will become active members of CIERA, Northwestern’s Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (www.ciera.northwestern.edu).  We are interested in attracting astronomers who will best leverage Northwestern’s institutional access to major telescopes (Keck and MMT observatories) or who are planning to pursue research with the Rubin Observatory, or other major astronomy facilities. Interdisciplinary hires joint with planetary science, computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, and an engineering department will also be considered.

Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field. Applicants should have a strong record of achievement in astrophysics research and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education in physics and astronomy. Appointment at the tenure‐track Assistant Professor level is the target of this search. The target starting date for this position is September 1, 2022.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, research statement, and a diversity statement (describing past, and planned contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion), and should arrange for a minimum of three reference letters to be sent in support of their application.  The deadline for submission of all materials is January 15th, 2022.  All materials should be submitted electronically through this link:
