The Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) at Northwestern University invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position with Professor Wen-fai Fong in the field of astrophysical transients. Specific areas include discovery and characterization of EM counterparts to gravitational wave sources, gamma-ray bursts, and host galaxy environments.
The successful candidate will lead and participate in the Fong group’s ongoing observing programs at radio, optical, NIR and/or X-ray wavelengths. As part of the Fong group, the candidate will additionally have guaranteed access to the 6.5m MMT, and institutional access to the 10m Keck telescopes.
Applicants with experience in optical or NIR spectroscopy, X-ray observations, and/or rapid follow-up of astronomical objects at any wavelength are particularly encouraged to apply.
The postdoctoral position is for 2 years, renewable for 1 year upon satisfactory performance. The nominal start date is September 1, 2019. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy/astrophysics or related field by the date of appointment.
Applications that are complete by December 15, 2018 will receive full consideration.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, list of publications, a statement (3 pages maximum) explaining research interests and qualifications, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly. Please submit all application materials, including letters of reference, electronically to Academic Jobs Online: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/12203. All questions should be sent by email to CIERA-Jobs@northwestern.edu.
