Kristopher Mortensen, a 2020 graduate from Weinberg in Physics & Astronomy, was recognized with an Outstanding Thesis Research Undergraduate Award from the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. For his honors thesis, Kristopher studied the astrophysics of galaxies and galaxy evolution with Professor Claude-André Faucher-Giguère.
In his thesis, Kristopher used an innovative technique combining the power of gravitational lensing and the Keck telescope to measure in unprecedented detail the physical properties of the gaseous halo of a distant galaxy. Kristopher’s new results on the “Kinematics of the Circumgalactic Medium of a z=0.77 Galaxy from MgII Tomography” have been submitted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal.
Congratulations, Kristopher!
