On December 3, 2024, Forbes Magazine announced the honorees in their annual North American 30 Under 30 lists, including CIERA Postdoctoral Researcher Sylvia Biscoveanu in the Science category.
“I’m honored to be a part of this amazing cohort of young scientists,” said Dr. Biscoveanu. “It’s particularly encouraging to see fundamental research on abstract topics like black holes and gravitational waves celebrated on the same footing as work with immediate applications like biotech and artificial intelligence.”
The Forbes 30 Under 30 list celebrates 30 individuals per category under the age of 30 who are visionaries and changemakers within their fields and industries. This 14th annual list features 20 categories, from Transportation to Marketing to Hollywood and Entertainment. As detailed in her Forbes bio, “Sylvia Biscoveanu studies gravitational waves – ripples in spacetime caused by cosmic events like merging black holes and neutron stars. Her work helps interpret these signals, revealing the properties of the objects that produce them. One project is focused on these gravitational waves from the early universe, which could offer insights into the moments after the Big Bang.”
Dr. Biscoveanu is a NASA Einstein Fellow working the Professor Vicky Kalogera‘s group. In Fall 2025, Dr. Biscoveanu will join Princeton University as an Assistant Professor in Physics.
