CIERA is proud to share that Vicky Kalogera, Director of CIERA, has been selected as a recipient of the Daniel I. Linzer Award for Faculty Excellence in Service at Northwestern University.
The award citation states, “Vicky Kalogera has performed extensive service to the University through various committees and interdisciplinary efforts, including the Provost Search Committee, the Data Science and AI Steering Committee, the Northwestern Network for Collaborative Intelligence, the President’s Advisory Committee on Free Expression and Institutional Speech and the Program Review Council. Kalogera also leads the CIERA institute.”
Faculty service is a cornerstone of what makes Northwestern exceptional, and the Linzer Award honors faculty who exemplify outstanding academic citizenship. This recognition celebrates Vicky’s extraordinary service and her lasting positive impact on the University and its community.
Through her collaborative leadership and unwavering commitment to supporting students, staff, and faculty, Vicky has consistently elevated the quality of Northwestern as both an educational institution and a community of scholars.
The award will be bestowed on February 16, 2026, at the Faculty Awards Reception, where three additional faculty members will also be honored.
Kalogera is the Daniel I. Linzer Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the co-founder and the current director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) at Northwestern University and the director of the NSF-Simons AI Institute for the Sky (NSF-Simons SkAI).
