SkAI Postdoctoral Associate
Jimena was born and raised in Santander, Colombia. She received the Quiero Estudiar scholarship to study physics at the Universidad de los Andes. She will receive her PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in August 2025 and she was inducted into the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa. Her research focuses on developing AI techniques to identify and characterize strong gravitational lenses. Jimena is also passionate about outreach and partnered with Space Warps on a Zooniverse citizen science project where volunteers help identify strong lenses. At the SkAI Institute, she will continue advancing AI methods for astronomical imaging, with a focus on uncertainty estimation. Outside research, Jimena enjoys exploring nature—from caves and cenotes to high-altitude p´aramos, and from the deserts of Big Bend National Park to the rainforests of Olympic National Park.
