Jo, Yongseok

SkAI Postdoctoral Fellow

Yongseok Jo is an astrophysicist and ML enthusiast with a PhD from Seoul National University, who has conducted postdoctoral research at the Flatiron Institute and Columbia University in New York. Yongseok’s scientific interests span galaxy formation, star clusters and black holes, ML, and computational astrophysics. He applies ML to cosmological simulations, leveraging the CAMELS suite to improve/calibrate galaxy-formation models, and develops a hybrid hydrodynamic/direct N-body code (e.g., Enzo-Abyss) to study the evolution of star clusters within galaxies or cosmological context. In addition to academic work, he is also exploring the development of small language models.
