Visiting Scholar, joining CIERA full-time in 2027

Pieter van Dokkum is a professor of Astronomy and Physics at Yale University. His research spans a wide range, from stars and stellar populations to the most distant galaxies. Together with Roberto Abraham, he initiated the Dragonfly Telephoto Array in New Mexico, the largest working refracting telescope in existence. Van Dokkum and Abraham are currently building Mothra, a 4.7m refracting array in Chile that will explore the Cosmic Web. Van Dokkum served as Department Chair and Divisional Director at Yale and as a member of the 2020 Decadal Survey Steering Committee. He will be joining CIERA in 2027.
