This fall, we are excited to welcome Allison Strom and Jason Wang to CIERA as a new core faculty members.
Allison Strom joins Northwestern and CIERA as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics & Astronomy. She uses some of the largest telescopes on the ground and in space to study how galaxies form and evolve. Specifically, she is interested in understanding the baryonic processes that determine galaxies’ varied formation histories within dark matter halos, including accretion from the cosmic web, winds and feedback from massive stars, and large-scale outflows. Strom is an expert in using deep rest-UV and rest-optical spectroscopy of star-forming galaxies across redshift to trace changes in their physical conditions and chemical abundances.
Jason Wang joins us as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics & Astronomy. He takes images of faint exoplanets by removing the glare of their host stars using techniques such as coronagraphy and interferometry to trace out their orbits and measure the properties of their atmospheres. He also studies their atmospheres through low and high resolution spectroscopy.
