The SkAI Institute will unleash the discovery potential of revolutionary sky surveys and solve fundamental and emerging multi-scale problems at the forefront of astrophysics and foundational AI. They will deliver Astro-AI innovations that intrinsically incorporate physics knowledge to produce trustworthy outputs for rigorous inference from data, transform the speed and reliability of simulations, and optimize the design of instruments and surveys. Their Astro-AI nexus will promote an inclusivity culture to advance collaboration, seed and nurture an ethically-cognizant and diverse generation of interdisciplinary leaders, and empower astronomers to use cutting-edge AI tools to address the fast-evolving challenges ahead.
SkAI brings together more than 100 team members (Senior Personnel, Collaborators, and partner organizations) from 25 partner organizations. Among these are 4 core universities, 2 national labs, 6 interdisciplinary research centers, 13 MSIs (including 2 in EPSCoR states), 8 community colleges, 3 non-profits, and 7 industry partners. They bring the critical research, education, and management expertise needed to successfully meet the goals of the SkAI Institute.
